Steve's Weekly Restaurant Recommendation:  Esther's Kitchen
Breakfast + Lunch = Brunch!!  And who doesn’t love brunch?  You don’t have to get up early.  It’s not weird to have a drink - in fact, it’s encouraged!  And you get savory breakfast food.  Everybody wins!
If you’re a brunch fan, too then head on over to Esther’s Kitchen in the Arts District, just North of the Strip.  After you finish your meal-to-remember, be sure to take a stroll through the Arts District and all the cool, funky little shops and vintage shopping!

Meghan and I sat at the bar, which itself is beautiful and adds to the experience.  Meghan ordered her all-time-favorite, Avocado Toast (if it’s on the menu, it’s a lock for Meghan).  Then she added on the fluffy and perfect scrambled eggs.  I got back in touch with my Southern roots with the Biscuits and Maple Sausage Gravy.  And I added a side of bacon, because, duh!  I could go on and on about my affinity for good Biscuits & Gravy, but that’s an entirely separate post!  The food was fresh, flavorful, creatively prepared and complex - all our favorite adjectives.  It it had been “colorful” we would have had a Powerball win 😂

The cocktails all have funny and creative names.  I ordered up a “John’s Daly,” which the menu described as "whisky, amaro, and an arnold palmer walk into a bar …”. And I kinda wanna BE John Daly when I grow up, so it was an easy choice.  Meghan had Prosecco, which brought a wonderful brightness to the avocado delight she was savoring.  For our second round, I switched to an IPA and Meghan had another Prosecco.  Everything, truly everything from the food to the atmosphere to the service was done to absolute perfection.
Afterward, we took a stroll through the charming Arts District, and Meghan was fired up to get some vintage shopping done!  She just LIVES for vintage shopping, and it inspires a lot of her design work.  Not gonna lie, I really love watching the process of her finding something cool, and then seeing the trace outlines of that piece show up in a recognizable way in a future garment.  She's an authentic genius, folks, but you already knew that….  As for me, I’m a good sport but don’t get fired up for shopping the way Meghan does, but I’m a stone-cold expert at finding the “dude chair” that every intelligent vintage shop owner places somewhere on the floor.  Keeps the dudes comfortable, and the ladies will buy more, amirite???
So, get off the Strip (I know I’m a broken record), enjoy this fantastic eatery, stroll around and get your steps in, and spend some time together with your special person.  Sure, it’s hot, but it ain’t gonna kill you!!  Cheers!

David's Pick of the Week: The Sphere

Everyone loves a listicle right? Who hasn't fallen for some click bait at the bottom of an article that ranks the Top 10 Album Covers of the 90's - or more timely, the Top 10 Olympic Sports you had no idea were Olympic Sports?

Well this isn't that. It's fact, and it's incredible. For those of us that have been lucky enough to visit the Sphere and for everyone else, dig into these 16 factoids about the venue that will blow your mind.

1.The Sphere was built by the group behind Madison Square Garden (hence “MSG”), and is owned by the same guy who also runs the New York Knicks and New York Rangers.

2. The site was provided by The Sands. Approximately 110,000 cubic yards of dirt and rock were excavated to prepare the site for construction!

3. Construction required the 4th largest crane crawler in the world. Brought in from Belgium, the crane alone required 120 tractor-trailers to transport to Vegas, and it took 18 days to assemble using a separate secondary crane. Once construction of the dome trusses reached their midway point, the crane had to be moved to the southern side of the property to install the remaining trusses. This relocation alone took 2 days!

4. 6,000 cubic yards of concrete were pumped into the roof once the steel frame was completed, forming a layer 10” thick weighing approximately 10,000 tons.

5. The Sphere measures 366 feet tall and 516 feet wide at its widest point.

6. The Sphere could easily hold the entire Statue of Liberty, from base to torch.

7. With 875,000 square feet of space, the Sphere has an interior capacity of 18,600 seats and standing room for 20,000 people.

8. The exosphere is 30% taller than the interior dome. The dome’s roof required 3,000 tons of steel to construct, and includes 32 trusses that weigh a whopping 100 tons each. It weighs a total of 13,000 tons, with a surface area of 220,000 square feet.

9. Out of 18,600 total seats, 10,000 seats provide a fully immersive experience, including specialized sound systems, haptic seats capable of making guests “feel” sound vibrations, and 4D machines that create wind, temperature, and scent effects.

10. The exterior display is made up of over 1.2 million programmable LEDs, featuring about 580,000 square feet of programmable lighting. The Sphere’s owners say you can see it from space!

11. Manufactured by Canadian company SACO Technologies, the interior high-resolution LED screen is the largest on earth, wrapping halfway around the 18,600 seats inside. It measures 160,000 square feet and covers an area larger than three football fields!

12. The interior screen also features 268 million video pixels with 16K resolution, making it the highest resolution screen in the world—at 19,000 x 13,500 pixels, it’s 100x clearer than today’s best HD TVs.

13. The Sphere is home to the world’s largest concert-grade audio system, comprising 1,586 loudspeaker modules, 167,000 speaker drivers, amplifiers, and processing channels, as well as 300 mobile loudspeaker modules that deliver a “crystal-clear” multi-layered audio experience through “beamforming” technology and wave field synthesis.

14. A one-week advertising campaign could set brands back a whopping $650,000. A one day campaign (which works out to about four hours of screen time) will run $450,000.

15. The Sphere requires 28 megawatts to function at peak energy usage, the equivalent to supplying power to 21,000 homes.

16. Around 70% of the Sphere’s energy will be obtained from solar power!

Best Pool Party:  GO!  Pool Party, Flamingo Hotel

Circling back to the GO! Pool Party at the Flamingo Hotel and Casino.  I still think this is the hottest every day pool party on the strip- prove me wrong!!  Here is my post from week 1:  When I was in my 20s, we used to drive out to Vegas every weekend just for the summer pool parties. And I have to say, the Go! Pool Party every Saturday at the Flamingo Hotel and Casino is just like the Vegas summer pool party good old days.  It’s adults only, and the energy is electric. The music is pumping and nearly naked  beautiful people are everywhere.  It’s the perfect spot if you’re looking for 24 hour party people Vegas energy.
